Classic New England Charm Elegantly Combines with Rustic Vermont-Alpine Style and Ultimate Luxuries to Create Unique Stowe Mountain Lodge Design

Stowe, Vt. - For over a century Stowe, Vermont has attracted the world’s most discerning travelers, who have cherished the beauty of the area’s covered bridges, sparkling lakes, rambling woodlands and majestic peaks. When it opens June 2008, Stowe Mountain Lodge will be the first true luxury resort hotel to open in the Northeast in more than 50 years, while offering a service precision typically associated with Far Eastern properties, a sophistication inspired by the finest European hotels and a relaxed warmth that is distinctly New England. Built in the new “Vermont-Alpine” aesthetic, Stowe Mountain Lodge will offer a truly luxurious setting, while still honoring the Vermont traditions of utilizing local artisan products and embracing the tranquility of nature.

Designed by renowned firms 42|40 Architecture and Brennan Beer Gorman, the six-story, 139-room lodge draws on the architectural tradition of turn-of-the-century summer camps created by the great families of New England. The lodge's exterior features a picturesque façade of woven timber and shingles that draw upon the natural harmony found in nature, as well as stone veneer created from local quarries, and expansive glass to bring the beauty of the lodge's outdoor surroundings to the indoors. Firepits have been strategically placed throughout the grounds surrounding the lodge to further evoke the traditions of the past and connect guests with the essence of nature.

The interior design will further emphasize the modern and edgy take on natural beauty, enabling guests to experience Vermont through a mélange of old and new, rustic and romantic. Designers Wilson Associates interchanged natural Vermont woods and stones, birch bark columns and detailing to provide a harmonious backdrop to unique and handcrafted artistic pieces. The color palette of the local seasons – vibrant reds, deep oranges, warm yellows and soothing greens – in varying patterns and textures will be found in the upholstery of inviting furnishings. With cascading windows found throughout the property, seating areas will be meticulously placed in locations where guests will enjoy the warm glow of natural light. Two stone fireplaces found in the great room and the lobby will provide the perfect backdrops for spirited conversation, or cozy niches for quiet reflection.

Each room has been custom-designed as a respite, with warm tones, plush furnishings and soothing amenities. Beds will feature bamboo bed linens, feather beds, goose down comforters and a selection of international pillows. Other luxuries include stone fireplaces, relaxation tubs, rainforest marble bathroom floors, granite countertops, flat screen televisions, and "personal bars" filled with the guest's favorite treats. All rooms will be framed by oversized windows and outdoor balconies, allowing guests to take full advantage of the remarkable mountain landscape of Mt. Mansfield and Spruce Peak.

As a true showcase for the local area's most renowned artisans, Stowe Mountain Lodge's guest rooms will be adorned with paintings from various Vermont artists, as well as lamps from Quechee's famed glassblower Simon Pearce, and olive oil-based bath amenities produced in Vermont for Salon Mario Russo. Public spaces will display select wooden works from Bridgewater-based furniture maker Charles Shackleton, complemented by pieces from his wife, pottery maker Miranda Thomas. Artistic woodworker Parker Nichols has salvaged old-growth trees that have succumbed to time, from local forests near his Marshfield studio, to create a host stand and tables for the lodge's restaurant, and select pieces for the spa. Iron works around the hotel will be custom created by award-winning blacksmiths Hubbardton Forge in Castleton, Vermont. Vermont Fine Art Gallery in Stowe has selected paintings from local artists to adorn various walls throughout the lodge.

The new Stowe Mountain Lodge is located at the heart of the lively Spruce Peak at Stowe alpine village in historic Stowe, Vermont. Opening June 2008, the 139-room lodge will offer an exclusive 18-hole mountain golf course created by the legendary Bob Cupp, a luxurious spa, Cooper Wellness at Stowe, Salon Mario Russo, 12,100 square feet of meeting space, the Alpine Concierge® available to anticipate every need, twice-daily housekeeping, 24-hour in-room dining and artisan-inspired cuisine.
