Just Leave Tracks
Preserving our habitat one step at a time.
It's simple really, the less trash that hits the ground at our beautiful resort, the more our ski, bike and hiking trails stay pristine for everyone to enjoy. But unfortunately, with the amount of visitors we have per year here in Stowe, trash does make its way around the mountain and accumulates on the trails and base areas.
With more than 425,000 visitors at Stowe Mountain Resort per year, candy wrappers, coffee cups, drink cans, cigarette butts and more all add up. And it's everyone's job to keep it all in the trash receptacles and not on the trails.
That's why Stowe Mountain Lodge has implemented a program around the resort, "Just Leave Tracks" to help remind us all how important it is to keep Vermont beautiful! With four easy steps, we can all help make this very special place even more pristine for generations to come.
And don't forget...
...to sign up for our educational hikes or snowshoe tours, where our trained guides will tell you more about how to make a difference and "Just Leave Tracks" when recreating in the mountains.
Just Leave Tracks
1. Think Ahead
Whenever you're planning a day on the mountain, whether it be to get first tracks in winter, or to find a serene quiet place to hike or bike in the summer, remember to plan ahead for the trash that goes with those excursions.
Bring a ziplock bag for wrappers, water bottles and other trash to pack out, or hold onto it in your pockets until you get back to the Lodge or base area where the receptacles are located. Remember, one less wrapper, tissue or any other piece of trash on the mountain can make all the difference.
2. You're Not Alone
Just think, what would Stowe Mountain Resort look like if everyone dropped their trash off the lift, threw their energy drink can in the woods or dropped their fruit peels in the lift line or at the base? It wouldn't be a very pretty place.
Always try to remember that there are others enjoying the mountain too, including the wildlife that live here all year long. Keeping the mountain pristine for everyone is up to all of us, together!
3. Be the Solution
There are times when mistakes happen, especially when it comes to trash and our impact in the mountains. Things get dropped from the chair lift by accident, people forget about their empty bottles and coffee cups when sitting at Spruce Base Camp by the fire, trash gets dropped and goes unnoticed. If you see that happen, pick it up and throw it away! Let's all help each other out to make this a litter-free resort!
4. Spread the Word
It's easy to forget how important it is to keep our mountains beautiful and how to do our part. Remind your friends and family to be the solution too and we all get to benefit!
