March is Kids Healthy Eating Month!
March is Kids Healthy Eating Month and Stowe Mountain Lodge and Destination Hotels & Resorts are committed to participating in informing and educating their guests about this important initiative.
Starting today, Destination Hotels & Resorts is running a month-long contest open to the public in which they will solicit healthy kids recipes in an attempt to find the best recipe that combines fun, health and of course great taste. The winner of this contest will receive a family vacation for four, including airfare, to their choice of any one of the 35 Destination Hotels & Resorts properties throughout the country and their recipe will be featured on the company’s Kid’s Café menu for a year. Additionally, two runner-ups will see their recipe on the online Kid’s Café menu and will receive a classroom visit from one of Destination Hotels & Resorts’ executive chefs. For more information or to enter the contest please visit www.destinationhotels.com/recipe-contest/
Since its inception, Stowe Mountain Lodge has been committed to using fresh, locally sourced ingredients in all of the dishes served throughout the lodge, and is therefore exceptionally enthused for Kids Healthy Eating Month. The lodge has launched a few initiatives that will promote healthy eating and will be serving these specials throughout the month its award-winning restaurant, Solstice.
- Complimentary “Energy Booster Shots” during breakfast for all kids who dine in Solstice at Stowe Mountain Lodge. These smoothie shots will contain fresh fruit, yogurt and other natural ingredients to help get kids off to a smart and fun start to their day.
- A daily dinner special for kids every night during the month of March. These flavorful and healthy entrée options will change daily and feature Vermont inspired dishes made with seasonal ingredients.
- A weekly healthy dessert option will also be available all month. Children will get their sweet fix without ingesting a large amount of sugar, calories and fat. Parents will receive the recipe for the dessert when they leave, so they can recreate it at home for their kids.
- Each child who dines at Stowe Mountain Lodge will receive “Healthy Tips from the Chef” which will include innovative ways kids can eat healthy everyday without sacrificing flavor or eliminating items from their diet. Stowe Mountain Lodge’s executive chef has noted small changes parents and children can make to help put healthier food on the table. For example, one tip that the executive chef uses in his cooking at Stowe Mountain Lodge is substituting organic honey to replace granulated sugar. Tips like these will make the transition to healthier eating smooth and seamless.
