Don’t let dehydration slow you down this summer!!

Whether you are hiking, biking, swimming or doing something else active and fun this summer while in Stowe, Vermont, make sure to carry plenty of water with you!  

Take it from me, if you have ever been dehydrated, it is not much fun.  I even sometimes forget to drink enough water while guiding one of our many hikes and outdoor activities that we offer here at Stowe Mountain Lodge.

 According to the Institute of Medicine, women should take in about 11 cups of fluid a day, and men should take in about 15 cups, but that includes liquids found in foods too. That's more if you exercise.   If you are planning a hike this weekend while in Stowe, start hydrating now.  It’s never too early to start!

Carry plenty of water with you and make sure it is securely on your body.  In other words, don’t plan on carrying it in your hands.  Certain trails may require the use of your hands.  If you have kids, have them carry water too.  It’s difficult to say how much to carry with you, but take into consideration how long you will be out there hiking, the temperature, as well as the humidity and your current state of hydration. 

Take along an extra bottle for emergencies.  Now grab some water and hit the trails! Stowe has some of the best trails in the Northeast that are just beckoning you to explore! See you out there! Happy trails.
