Stowe Mountain Lodge Blog
It may be hard for some to believe that Vermont is known for its pizza, but it’s true--flatbread pizza that is. And Hourglass at Stowe Mountain Lodge takes the farm-to-table flatbread pizza concept to a new level!
With Chef Josh Berry's ability to source ingredients from local Vermont farmers, our flatbreads are unique, robust in flavor and an enjoyable treat after a day of outdoor mountain exercise.
Each time I snack on one after a day of hiking, skiing, golfing or snowshoeing with friends, I know it’s a much deserved and healthy treat to indulge on, paired with our own Hourglass Ale or a glass of wine.
Here are my favorites, made in our signature stone oven:
1.The Taste of Vermont features local apples, Vermont bacon and Grafton cheddar cheese. You may think apples on pizza sounds strange, but it is perfection!
2. The Backcountry features charred tomato sauce, basil pesto, mozzarella with the option of hand cut, spicy pepperoni. It’s great for the meat-lover pizza eater, without the typical heaviness of a normal pepperoni pizza.
3. The Veggie features fresh grilled eggplant, arugula, Granna, local tomatoes and sundried Tomato Coulis. It’s like a salad on a pizza that goes really well with a glass of white wine on a warm day. Pizza, with no guilt-I like that!
The best part about eating Vermont Flatbread at the Lodge is it’s usually enjoyed after a day of fresh air and outdoor exercise or adventure, which makes the locally-sourced cheeses, crusts, veggies and meat taste that much better. Just another reason to love Vermont and all it has to offer!
