Let fitness expert, Pete Johnson, help you find your motivation to stay active during the busy holiday season!
The time is fast approaching when friends and family gather together to share large volumes of food and drink, talking about what they have been doing since the last time they saw each other. The holiday season tends to be the time when we overeat, under exercise and sometimes stress over our family, holiday details, and fitting everything in.
Proper fitness and nutrition habits seem to go out the window during this season. However, it can be a relief to know that getting through these days can be a lot easier if they are approached with a positive attitude and some extra motivation. Going away to a warmer climate for a vacation? How do you want to look in that bathing suit? Going on a ski trip? Do you want those legs to feel strong when the day is done? These small things can really make a person want to stick to an exercise routine and achieve small goals they might set for themselves. We all might slip up during the holidays, but getting “right back in the saddle” is important to get yourself where you want to be. There never is a bad time to start an exercise program, just a bad time to stop one!
Here in Northern Vermont, we are getting ready for what always is a long, cold and hopefully snowy winter. Outdoor activities such as Nordic skiing, skating and snowshoeing can coincide when families are together. What better way to enjoy time together! These are great things to do from a calorie burn perspective, and aerobic fitness and stamina can be greatly increased with regular participation in these exercises. So, take the family out and enjoy the winter!
