Hints & Tricks for the First Time Family Reunion Planner
With summer comes barbecues, camp fires, fireflies, parades and the annual family reunion.
Have you been asked to take on this grueling task for the family this year? Are you scratching your head and wondering where to being?
As a resort hotel guided by our commitment to family and group activities, and one built upon traditions and legacies, let us help you get started!
We hope that the following tips and hints help you along your way, and if not, give us a call and we can take it from there!
1. Have a preferred date, and a back-up date.
Finding a date that works for everyone is nearly impossible. We know. BUT, having a back-up date is equally as important, because when you find the perfect place, and they don’t have your first choice date available, having to go back and poll the family again is a nightmare. So, have everyone decide on date #1 and date #2. We promise this will save you an unnecessary headache!
2. Know your family’s needs.
Before calling, make a list of the different families attending the reunion and decipher who needs what.
Your brother John needs a 3 bedroom unit for his expanding family and its got to have a kitchen. Your parents like to host the grandkids for cards every night, so they will need a room with a large table. It's cousin Pam’s birthday, so we’re going to need a cake. Get all off the nitty gritty organized in advance. This will help you communicate your “must haves” to the hotels/resorts you call.
3. Activities. Activities. Activities.
Summer is about being outside. For some, from dawn until dusk. Have an idea of what will excite your family most. Plan daily adventures, or just a few things to do for different family members.
From guided hikes to Bingham’s Falls, Stand-Up Paddle Boarding, Farm Visits, Zipline Adventures, Canoe & Kayak Tours, Furniture Making Classes, let our Recreation Manager work hand-in hand with you to put together experiences to excite the young and old!
4. Food is a universal language.
All of the best holidays and family traditions are centered around food. It’s a fact. And no great reunion is complete without at least one family meal.
Have an idea of how many, and on which nights of the trip the family wants to dine together. Bring ideas of what the family would like to the table when speaking with your sales person; BBQs, Clam Bakes, Pasta Supper. Even better, incorporate food into a family activity! For example, have a “Cook Off” among the families Iron Chef style! What family doesn’t like a bit of healthy competition?
5. Make yourself look good!
Find a property that will make YOU look good to the rest of the family. Here at Stowe Mountain Lodge our job is to take as much stress off of you as humanly possible. We want to make you look like the hero to your family, without having to deal with any of the headache! It's your vacation too! Let us make sure that you are able to relax and enjoy just as much, if not more, than the family that you’ve planned everything for!
