Green Efforts Continue at Stowe Mountain Lodge
After a long day on the slopes or on our hiking trails, everyone wants to freshen up with a nice, long hot shower before dinner. One of the most challenging ways to conserve water is in the shower. Within our stewardship goals and a true commitment to our green efforts, we installed low flow shower heads in all the guest rooms. Unfortunately, due to the low flow, we received many complaints of not being able to rinse soap and shampoo off, showers taking twice as long, and general lack of pressure, due to the low flow of water. This we simply could not have for our valued guests.
A year ago, Green Lodging News posted an article about a new shower head made by High Sierra Shower Heads. As I was reading the small article I remembered some of our guest survey comments from months past. I made sure to mention this to our engineering staff who looked into the brand and its quality.
Once they received the sample they installed one into a room for a test run. High Sierra claims these showerheads will save you an additional 40% water/energy savings than a low flow showerhead with only using 1.5 gallons per minute.
After a long successful trial run we have decided to roll out the old and bring in the new. This will not only save us on water consumption, but improve guest comfort and satisfaction. We won’t know the actual savings until all rooms have been turned over but we should notice a significant change as we move forward, and a much better showering experience! Just another way in which I am proud that Stowe Mountain Lodge commits to their green efforts without sacrificing our guests' experience.
