Stowe Mountain Lodge Blog
A group of us from the culinary team recently visted and took a tour of the Lost Nation Brewery in Morrisville, Vermont with Allan and Jamie (the brew master’s and co-owners).
As somewhat local celebrities, they have been in partnership with several local breweries working on their craft, initially starting in town at the Von Trapp Brewery. They walked us around the brewery showing us the layout and plans for the future, and I talked with them a little bit about their brewing process (as I like to do a little craft brewing of my own).
Currently, they are running six individual beers for the foreseeable future, and they explained their philosophy behind their selections of why they chose each beer. In essence, every major brewery creates their versions of the “big name” brews. They have their IPA’s, the Ales, Lagers, Porters and everything in between. Lost Nation is focusing on beers that are distinct and unique, providing a great entry level experience for the weekend drinker, and a nice change of pace for the craft beer connoisseur.
The Food & Beverage team is very excited to have them on tap now at Stowe Mountain Lodge in Hourglass Lounge, as we are always looking to expand the Vermont products we offer to our guests and establish relationships with our local purveyors. Living in the state that has the most micro-breweries in the country, I for one am very proud to share some of the best beers in the country and perhaps the world with our guests. It's just one of the many reasons I look forward to coming to work every day.
To provide an example of what Lost Nation Brewery is doing, they’ve brought this nearly extinct beer style back to life:
Gose: 4.5% ABV, 8 IBU -- A traditional German beer style that was all but extinct 30 years ago. An amazingly refreshing beer brewed with coriander and sea salt. The tart, dry finish combined with the hint of salt and citrus leaves your palate craving another sip.
I, for one, am excited to see what these talented and local brewmasters come up with next!
