Stowe Mountain Lodge Blog
After five-plus years of offering some of the best high-tech and high-touch services at The Spa at Stowe Mountain Lodge and over 30,000 guests visiting the spa, it was time to do a “facelift” to some of the beautiful spaces in the spa. To support our commitment to sustainability and our mission “To strive to be not only the best spa in the world, but for the world,” we partnered with a carpet company called Interface.
We chose a to go with their Tactile System for several reasons. With virtually zero VOCs and an environmental footprint that’s more than 90% lower than traditional carpet adhesives, TacTiles offer a more sustainable installation option.
When it comes to replacement time in the future, we can simply replace a portion of the tile, reducing the amount of carpet going into our landfills. The system is based on the tenets of biomimicry. They looked to nature for inspiration and came across the gecko, a remarkable lizard that relies on the intermolecular force of more than a million tiny foot hairs to stick to surfaces at any angle.
From this, they developed a glue-free installation system that uses the inherent strength of the backing to create a dimensionally stable “floating floor.” These flexible backing systems hug the floor, creating dimensional stability without glue. The tiles are connected to each other and nothing sticks to the subfloor.
We chose a color called “grass” – how appropriate in our spa that is surrounded by the natural beauty Vermont is known for. Come and check it out – it might be the next carpet solution for you as well!
